We don’t make anything any more.
Derelict Factory – Stoke-on-Trent, UK.
What are the foundations of the UK economy? Is it built on sand?
I don’t see how the UK economy will continue to prosper: our manufacturing industry is in rapid terminal decline, we have no mining industry, the fishing fleets are mothballed, North Sea oil and gas are almost gone.
We have become a nation of consumers not producers. So where is the wealth coming from that feeds this consumption? It seems to me that we only have service industries servicing other service industries.
The factories have been bulldozed and replaced with shopping malls, that sell products produced elsewhere in the world.
Of course we are told that London is a major financial centre, but surely the City can’t be propping up the whole economy! Isn’t it just feeding the Fat Cats in the overheated South East?
Lot’s of questions, has anybody out there gone any answers?
How soon before the bubble bursts?
Don’t ask me I’m only a consultant in a service industry!
